My itch for painting is like the itch we get for getting a new piercing or tattoo. It sounds like a great idea when the inkling comes up but then you realize it might end up being more than you thought….but you do it anyway. You know you wont regret it so you just do it. I almost regretted taking on the task of painting my kitchen cupboards.
Step one was deciding what colors to go with and i ended up having to go back to Canadian Tire to pick one more color anyway after seeing how the grey went with the ugly orangish wood trim of my cupboard doors. After choosing, what they call “cacao nibs”, for my bottom cupboards i was already on the verge of quitting the feat i had started. All the screws were different, some stripped and i couldnt do it on my own. In comes my heroic boyfriend to put up with my attitude and a power tool in my hand! Step two involved getting the garden ready in between drying paint. I literally watched paint dry up until my brother came out to help. Luckily he managed to reclaim my first attempt at the overgrown garden and cleaned it up better than i could do. It was some relaxation to my trouble mind that stayed in the kitchen while i tried to relax and plant some seeds. Of course, little man was outside motoring around in circles through the yard and after one too many crashes i was a little weery so no relaxation to really be had anywhere this weekend. No trouble came from all this anxiety though.
After a day and a half of painting, gardening, and hot sun i felt accomplished and happy. Finally able to relax after putting up that final door and peeling the painters tape off the wood. The kitchen is far from done but it needed that new paint job when we got this place 20 years ago. No more off-white paint for this gal! I can honestly say renos and gardening can be considered a workout in any form. Calories burned, smiles were had and hopefully my 2025 garden round 2 goes off without a hitch. Wish me luck!
